Hugs for Soldiers, Tarpon Springs, May 2013 - Imagine it’s your birthday and you are far from home in the middle of a foreign land, fighting for your Country. Now imagine mail call and to your astonishment, your name is unexpectedly shouted as envelopes are being passed to you, yet you don’t recognize the return address, and you never receive mail. You hesitantly open one of the envelopes to discover a birthday card full of warm wishes from total strangers back in the USA! Visualize that scene, playing right in front of your eyes, a brave Soldier, one who thought he was forgotten, receiving a card that took so little time, but had such a profound effect.
Although we don’t know any of them, DAILY DIMES® Staff remembered a group of Soldiers with Birthday Cards, sponsored by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and filled with our warmest birthday wishes. These sincere birthday wishes were sent to the Hugs for Soldiers foundation, based out of Duluth, Georgia, and they were passed along to recipients on our behalf.
Likewise, we appreciate that our Soldiers may want to be in touch with friends and family, and they don’t always have the benefit of a commissary or local greeting card store nearby. In our continuing effort to support our Soldiers, we also donated an assortment of blank greeting cards for them to send to their families and friends for the occasions in their lives that need a greeting card.
Hugs for Soldiers have been supporting our brave troops since 2003 and is devoted to giving cheer, consolation, and solace to adopted troops across the nation. DAILY DIMES® is proud to be a part of this terrific cause and to boost the morale of our beloved troops during challenging times.
